Tree planting in honor of Joseph Beuys

From now on, an oak tree on the forecourt of the prelate's building is calling to mind the great contemporary artist and his idea of art

In 1982, Joseph Beuys called for a planting campaign of – until then – unknown dimensions: 7.000 oak trees were planted during the Kassel "documenta" in the city area until 1987. The aim was to extend the current idea of art to ecologic and social aspects.

The art project continues until today – the City of Burghausen is now participating by planting an oak tree in front of the TUM Science & Study Center Raitenhaslach. On Sunday November 18, 2018 interested persons can take part in this remarkable action.

Johannes Stüttgen, Beuys's companion for many years, is contributing to the planting with a public lecture in the Aula maior at 11 am. Being a former master-class student of Beuys, Stüttgen's research and teaching is based on the extended idea of art mentioned above. Afterwards, the actual tree planting and erection of a basalt stele is happening at 12.15 am on the forecourt of the prelate's building. The admission is free of charge.

The event is organized by the "Haus der Fotografie" Burghausen in cooperation with the foundation DASMAXIMUM Traunreut. For more information, please see the Invitation to the planting action (PDF, 534 KB, in German).
